The Re-enactment in Ogdensburg,NY

We had a very busy weekend during the re-enactment which took place at Fort La Presentation on Lighthouse Point in Ogdensburg, NY. We had guests that were re-enactors, re-enactment watchers and even a family attending to be part of the weekend but not actual re-enactors.  It was great fun to hear all about the weekend.

While all of that was going on Tim and I were at the market. Many of the re-enactors came by in the morning to purchase goods to take back to camp and prepare meals over an open fire. Many bought coffee and were very happy to be going back to prepare coffee made from freshly roasted beans from St. Lawrence Valley Roasters.
When we go to the market, I usually bring baked goods from Baker Road Bakery to have on hand and occasionally I bring some things from North Fork Gifts. This time I did bring some of the new bird houses and bird feeders. I'm very excited about them and the lighthouse theme was completely appropriate for this weekend in particular. Here are some of the baked goods. The red and white Lighthouse is sold.
Here's a picture of a couple of the Lighthouse bird houses and feeders. I love the stone one myself. They all have their own personality and are each uniquely created to be one of a kind.
This morning I'm going to be working on messenger bags made from the burlap coffee bags. When I have some done, I'll share them so you can see what they look like. I hope to also get the bird feeders and houses uploaded to North Fork Gifts, Etsy and Art Fire. So please do check back later to see what has developed. Right now I'm off to work!

Breakfast at North Fork B&B

We've been pretty busy here at North Fork B&B. As a result, we've had the chance to make many different breakfasts. I haven't put all the new recipes on the website, but I plan to in the near future. These days, when not preparing breakfast or visiting with guests, I've been working on North Fork Gifts ecommerce site. Finally, after many weeks, it is up and purchases can easily be made. It is worth going there to take a look. I'm putting new things on there everyday and plan to continue. Let me know what you think. Today was kayaking, finally! It was great fun!! My daughter and I put in near SLU and paddled out into the river. It was just plain fun to be back in my kayak and out on the water.  I will go again tomorrow and I can't wait. OK, back to the breakfast scene. After a trip to Orebed Maple Sugar Shack in DeKalb, I'm able to make those delicious maple scones again and our guests absolutely loved having them for breakfast this past week.

Over this past weekend, I tried my hand at blueberry scones. I had fresh blueberries from the Canton Farmer's Market. I don't care for the drop by spoonful type so I changed it up a bit and made the formed ones and sprinkled sugar on the top. They were very tasty indeed. Our guests just loved them!

Ogdensburg Green Market and the Re-enactment

[caption id="attachment_291" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="St. Lawrence Valley Roasters at the Ogdensburg Green Market"][/caption]

Yesterday my husband Tim and I spent the day at the Ogdensburg Green Market along the river. Many different kinds of things are available at the Green Market. It was a beautiful day! We arrived early due to the re-enactment. It was fun to see all of the participants in period dress. I especailly enjoyed the variety of dresses and hats the women were wearing. We had many people stop by for coffee ( St. Lawrence Valley Roasters) and Baker Road Bakery goodies. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

We've been especailly busy here at North Fork Bed and Breakfast/Gifts which is wonderful! This weekend we have guests that are both participants and spectators of the re-enactment. Yesterday we made sure we got our breakfast sausage from Cliff Cook of Cook Farm. We try to use as many local products as possible here at North Fork. Cliff's sausage is the best breakfast sausage I've ever eaten!

This picture shows one of the new bird houses we have at North Fork Gifts. Look for a variety of bird houses and feeders coming soon on our website. You can also see the bread and some of the baked goods. It was an enjoyable day.As the Seaway Festival kicks off, the re-enactment is winding down. Last night they had fireworks which I'm sure everyone enjoyed. It will be a very busy week in Ogdensburg as the Seaway Festival takes place throughout the coming week and next weekend. Time to prepare breakfast!

[caption id="attachment_286" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Shortbread Cookies"][/caption]

I took maple scones, shortbread cookies, chocolate chip squares and blueberry muffins to the SLU coffee shop this morning. It was busy getting it all together. I need to get to the maple place to get more supplies. I use local maple products from the Orebed Maple Sugar Shack. The maple scones use maple sugar. It's a little pricey but it makes absolutely fabulous scones. I fed the sourdough base and made dough. Last night I baked 3 more loaves of bread. I'm including some pics of the shortbread cookies today. Usually I make bit size shortbread but for the coffee shop I make these larger ones. They really taste good and you only need one to be full. The sugar coating just makes it that more yummy.

Baking and creating.....

Yesterday I made maple scones, blueberry muffins, chocolate chip squares and shortbread cookies for the SLU cafe. They were delivered this morning. I have an order for a dozen muffins for Saturday when we go to the farmer's market. It's been warm, really warm here but I'm not complaining. After 3 summers in a row where all it did was rain AND it was really chilly, I'm happy to have a summer that's more "normal" if there is such a thing. Everything is running about a month ahead. The golden rod is already out and so are the black-eyed susans and the queen ann's lace. Very unusual, kinda makes one wonder what the winter will be like. Here are some pictures of those baked goods. Enjoy.....

Now it's off to tackle the front porch. Wish me luck!

Introducing some really awesome new products!

I have been very busy and I'm very excited to introduce some new products for the gift shop and my etsy shop. I've been making upcycled tote bags from the burlap coffee bags. It's great fun and I think people will enjoy using them. Each bag is lined. Some have coffee themed material, some have calico, some canvas. All are uniquely designed. These bags can be used for the farmer's market, grocery shopping, the beach, the boat, for your knitting, as a diaper bag or for anything you need to take from one place to another. I was able to carry most of my display for the market last week in one bag. Each bag has a set of woven handles. I'm in the process of designing handles from the bags as well. These should be on the gift shop web site soon. They should be on etsy today so check them out! I'm putting one in here so you can see what they look like. More will follow...

Having grown up virtually computer free, at times I find all of this a bit overwhelming to say the least. As you know, I have had my share of computer difficulties lately. Well, they seem to be continuing as I struggle to figure out the new computer and attempt to find my way around in word press. Frankly, I find dreamweaver much easier and I may just opt to go back to that! In the meantime, I just wanted to let everyone know that the reason my blog is such a mess is because it's reflecting my inability to figure things out. Hopefully, I will sometime soon and be back on track. Please be patient with me as I struggle to do this stuff!! Thank you!
